There is a top number in this species of contrast and colour intensity, and higher costs are typically demanded by the individuals that are colourful in the marketplace. L273 has not been bred so all specimens on offer are wild caught. Luckily the species is allowed for export.

When all the above is present Pseudacanthicus species can be enticed to strain. Men have broader heads and pectoral fin rays that are somewhat more outstanding. Females, of course, show a fatter belly, and some say the males have colours that are stronger at the same time.

Feeding

Carnivore although not a predator. Shrimp and encourage growth that is advantageous and chopped mussel seem favorites.

Suggested Tankmates

The temptation with large Loricariids that is tough is to keep them with other large tough fish for example Oscars or alternative brutish characters. This really works fairly well with mainly vegetarian or most omnivorous plecos. Pseudacanthicus despite their defensive protection can be intimidated by quicker moving fish of similar size. When their preferred food is unavailable, they are carnivores and just eat vegetables.

Aquarium Attention

Pseudacanthicus can be exceptionally territorial notably when adult, so a sizable aquarium of at least 5ft (150cm) would be beneficial to the species.

Sexing

Males seem to exhibit the more glowing more cosmetically attractive patterning. Females tend to be more drab even from an early age.

Compatibility

Generally peaceful but territorial from a young age. Some large specimens could cause issues if placed with other big nocturnal fish and are aggressively territorial. Hints

L273 is captivating is easy to get and when young. Find a piece that is mostly coloured, because the mottling will then be less distinct when it gets bigger.
